VALLEY FORGE, PA — PJM Interconnection has been named one of the nation’s 100 most adoption-friendly workplaces by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, recognition that highlights the growing role employee family-support benefits play in workforce recruitment and sretention strategies.
The regional grid operator ranked second among companies in the energy and utilities sector, according to the foundation’s annual workplace survey.
The ranking evaluates employer adoption benefits, including financial assistance for adoption-related expenses and paid leave policies for adoptive parents.
PJM has provided adoption assistance benefits to full-time employees since 2006. The program reimburses eligible adoption-related costs, including agency fees, legal expenses, and travel associated with the adoption process.
The recognition comes as employers increasingly expand family-oriented benefits in an effort to attract and retain workers in competitive labor markets.
Nora Swimm, PJM’s senior vice president of corporate client services, stated that adoption assistance remains a longstanding component of the organization’s employee benefits strategy.
“Supporting employees through the process of adoption remains an important part of who we are as an organization,” Swimm said.
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a nonprofit focused on finding permanent homes for children in foster care, has published its adoption-friendly workplace rankings annually since 2002.
The foundation’s survey evaluates corporate policies designed to support adoptive families, with particular emphasis on reimbursement programs and leave benefits.
According to the organization, more than 140,000 children are currently waiting for permanent homes through foster care systems across North America.
PJM operates the nation’s largest electric grid, coordinating the movement of wholesale electricity across 13 states and the District of Columbia while overseeing power markets serving more than 65 million people.
