The Institutes Names Katherine Horowitz President in Succession Move

The Institutes

MALVERN, PA — The Institutes has promoted Katherine Horowitz to president as part of a long-term leadership succession plan, expanding her role while Chief Executive Officer Peter L. Miller remains at the helm of the nonprofit risk management and insurance education organization.

The appointment, effective immediately, was unanimously approved by The Institutes’ Board of Trustees, the organization announced. Miller will continue serving as CEO.

The leadership change comes as The Institutes continues to operate a diversified enterprise of more than 20 affiliated organizations, brands and business units serving the risk management and insurance industry through education, research and professional resources.

Horowitz, who joined The Institutes in 2008, most recently served as executive vice president and head of business units. In her new role, she will continue overseeing the organization’s business units while assuming broader responsibilities representing The Institutes with industry partners, stakeholders and affiliated organizations.

Miller described the appointment as part of the organization’s long-term succession planning.

“When I brought this recommendation to our Board of Trustees, I did so with confidence and I wasn’t surprised by their unanimous support,” Miller stated. “Kate’s track record of growing and integrating our business units, her relationships across the RMI community, and her years of working directly alongside our Board speak for themselves.”

Horowitz has helped lead The Institutes’ expansion through mergers, acquisitions and the integration of affiliated organizations. Her responsibilities have included oversight of the Agent & Broker Group, Claims Litigation Management, Claims Pages, the CPCU Society, the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, the Insurance Information Institute, the International Insurance Society, the Insurance Research Council, the Pacific Insurance Conference, Risk & Insurance Group and the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association, along with enterprise partnerships, events and acquisitions.

“The Institutes have always been about something larger than any one of us,” Horowitz stated. “I am deeply honored by this appointment. I could not be more energized by what we will accomplish together for every student, every professional, and every organization that depends on us to help them succeed.”

Board Chair Kara Raiguel, who also serves as president and chief executive officer of Gen Re Corporation, characterized the promotion as reflecting the board’s confidence in both the organization’s current leadership and its long-term direction.

“The Board’s unanimous support for this appointment reflects the confidence we have in both Pete’s leadership and in Kate’s extraordinary contributions to this organization,” Raiguel stated.

A graduate of Neumann University and Penn State University, Horowitz serves on the boards of multiple insurance industry organizations, including the CPCU Society, Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, International Insurance Society, Insurance Information Institute, Black Insurance Industry Collective, Catastrophe Resiliency Council, The Institutes RiskStream Collaborative and the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association.
