DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) in Downingtown, PA, has welcomed Christa Fazio as their new director of communications, marketing, and engagement. Fazio officially took on her role on December 20, 2023, following the retirement of Mary Jeanne Curley, who held the position for an impressive 38 years.
Dr. George F. Fiore, executive director for the CCIU, expressed his gratitude to Curley for her years of service and voiced his confidence in Fazio’s ability to carry forward the CCIU’s mission. “Christa’s passion for making a difference and fostering meaningful connections within the community aligns seamlessly with our goals here at the CCIU,” stated Dr. Fiore.
Fazio brings to the table over 18 years of public relations experience, with nearly 12 of those years dedicated to supporting public education. From humble beginnings in the newsroom to leadership roles in top public relations agencies and school districts, Fazio has honed her skills in strategic planning, crisis management, and creative storytelling.
Her career trajectory includes a stint as a senior account executive at Tierney, a leading public relations and advertising firm in Philadelphia. She then transitioned into education, serving as the communications coordinator for the Penn-Delco School District (PDSD) in Delaware County. During her tenure at PDSD, she established the district’s social media presence and worked towards enhancing community engagement.
In 2018, Fazio joined the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District (UCFSD), where she developed a comprehensive communication program, guided the district through the COVID-19 pandemic, and led communication strategies for several significant district initiatives.
Fazio’s efforts in education communications have not gone unnoticed. She has received multiple awards of excellence and has shared her expertise at state and national conferences. In her new role, she will also serve as the executive director of the Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association (PenSPRA), an organization she presided over from 2021-2023.
Upon her appointment, Fazio expressed her enthusiasm about joining the CCIU. “I am eager to contribute my expertise and passion to further elevate the CCIU’s impact, amplify its voice, and forge meaningful connections with our valued stakeholders across the county and beyond,” said Fazio.
