Route 100 Bridge Overhaul to Bring Overnight Closures to U.S. 322—Here’s What You Need to Know

Traffic Alert

WEST GOSHEN TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a superstructure replacement project for the Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) bridge over U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in West Goshen Township, Chester County. This construction work will necessitate overnight closures of a section of U.S. 322, requiring motorists to follow designated detour routes.

Scheduled closures are set to occur on Monday, December 9, and Tuesday, December 10, from 8:00 PM each evening until 6:00 AM the following morning. During these times, both directions of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) will be inaccessible to through traffic between Phoenixville Pike and New Street.

To accommodate traffic flow, westbound U.S. 322 travelers will be directed to use the Paoli Pike Interchange, Gay Street, North High Street, Chestnut Street, Hannum Avenue, and Downingtown Pike. Eastbound motorists will follow a detour extending along Business U.S. 322, Hannum Avenue, North New Street, Market Street, West Chester Pike, and the ramp to U.S. 322/U.S. 202 South.

Drivers should prepare for delays and allow additional travel time when navigating the area during construction hours. PennDOT has stated that all planned activities are weather dependent and may be adjusted accordingly if conditions require.

The bridge replacement project is being undertaken due to damage sustained on December 21, 2023, when a large vehicle struck the Route 100 structure. The incident caused significant debris to fall onto U.S. 322, prompting the closure of Route 100, U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass), and the ramp from Route 100 to eastbound U.S. 322. Temporary repairs were conducted earlier to restore road functionality while the full superstructure replacement was planned.
