CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) revealed that a $3.6 million project aimed at improving travel and safety along a nearly three-mile stretch of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in East Bradford and West Goshen townships, Chester County, will continue next week.
From Monday, November 13, to Friday, November 17, motorists can expect periodic lane closures on U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) in both directions between U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike) and U.S. 202, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The closures are due to guide rail construction, an essential part of the safety improvement project. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as backups and delays are anticipated. All scheduled activities are dependent on favorable weather conditions.
The project, fully financed by federal funds, involves an array of improvements designed to enhance safety for all road users along this busy corridor. PennDOT’s contractor, Allan Myers of Worcester, Montgomery County, will narrow the travel lanes and extend the acceleration lanes to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
Furthermore, the project includes the replacement and installation of traffic signals, the construction of bicycle-friendly shoulders, and the installation of centerline rumble strips. In addition, guide rails will be replaced, and wrong-way countermeasures will be installed throughout the project corridor, further enhancing safety for motorists.
The improvements span from the intersection of U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) and U.S. 322 (Downingtown Pike), extending east to the U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) intersection with U.S. 202. The intersections included in this project are North New Street, Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), Penn Drive, Phoenixville Pike, and U.S. 202.
The overarching goal of the project is to enhance the safe and efficient movement of motorists and bicyclists on the U.S. 322 (West Chester Bypass) corridor. With this in mind, local residents can look forward to a safer and more efficient commute once the project is completed.
Construction work on this project is expected to wrap up this winter, bringing significant safety and travel benefits to all who use this stretch of roadway. As PennDOT continues its work, motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when driving through construction zones for their safety and that of the construction crews.
