NEWARK, DE — A Wilmington woman is facing multiple felony charges after being accused in a months-long retail theft investigation and an alleged fraudulent banking attempt, according to Delaware State Police.
Police reported that between September and December 2025, troopers investigated several shoplifting incidents at stores in the Christiana Mall and Fashion Center shopping areas. According to investigators, a female suspect allegedly worked with different accomplices to take large quantities of clothing and fragrances during that period.
Authorities stated that on March 17, 2026, the same suspect allegedly attempted to cash a fraudulent check valued at more than $4,000 at a bank in Wilmington. Police said bank employees became suspicious and contacted the account holder, who confirmed the check was not legitimate.
Through the investigation, troopers identified 30-year-old Nyejierra Drummond, of Wilmington, as the suspect and determined she allegedly took more than $24,800 in merchandise from multiple retail locations. Investigators reported they are continuing efforts to identify additional individuals who may have been involved.
According to police, Drummond was located and taken into custody on April 9 in Wilmington.
Police stated she was charged with attempted theft of $1,500 or more involving a victim age 62 or older, second-degree forgery, organized retail theft over $1,500 (four counts), shoplifting over $1,500, second-degree conspiracy (five counts), and shoplifting under $1,500.
Authorities reported Drummond was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $25,000 cash bail and a $1,000 unsecured bond.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
