WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man has been arrested in connection with a February shooting that left one person hospitalized and has now been charged with a series of serious felony offenses, including assault and weapons violations, according to city police.
The incident occurred on February 24, 2025, at approximately 7:20 a.m., when officers were dispatched to the area of Vandever Avenue and Locust Street for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located a 33-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
The case was assigned to Detective Kevin Murphy of the Wilmington Police Criminal Investigations Division. Following an extensive investigation, Detective Murphy identified 32-year-old Tourae Mills as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest.
On the evening of July 29, at approximately 7:14 p.m., officers on patrol spotted Mills operating a vehicle. When they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Mills allegedly fled. He was ultimately apprehended in the unit block of Vandever Avenue without further incident. During the arrest, police say they recovered a loaded 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number from the vehicle.
Mills now faces the following charges:
- Assault in the First Degree
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Five Counts of Reckless Endangering in the First Degree
- Criminal Mischief Over $5,000
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
- Multiple traffic-related offenses
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $174,407 cash-only bail.
As with all criminal cases, it is essential to emphasize that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains ongoing.
