WEST GROVE, PA — Simpson is opening a technology-focused speaker series at its Jenner’s Pond senior living community in West Grove this month, bringing physicians and technology specialists together to examine how artificial intelligence, remote monitoring and other tools could change health care and independent living for older adults.

The nonprofit’s TechLab Speaker Series will be open to the public and will include presentations on technology-enabled clinical monitoring and artificial intelligence, followed by hands-on demonstrations of consumer and health-monitoring devices.

The program comes as Simpson incorporates technology into care at Jenner’s Pond, a Life Plan Community offering independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing services to older adults in Chester County.

“As Americans live longer, more people will face dementia themselves or care for someone they love,” Simpson President and CEO Carol McKinley stated. “At the same time, technological advances are creating new opportunities to help older adults live healthier, safer, and more independent lives.”

The first presentation, scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m., will feature Kristopher Crawford, CEO of Unity Gap, alongside McKinley. They will discuss the use of clinical monitoring and physician oversight to identify potential health problems earlier and potentially reduce avoidable hospitalizations.

The session is intended for health care professionals, older adults, family caregivers and others interested in technology’s role in health care.

A second presentation, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m., will feature Stu Hamilton, founder of Amba, and McKinley. Their discussion will focus on applications of artificial intelligence in independent living, assisted living and memory care, including technology designed to improve safety, reduce falls and hospitalizations, and help older adults remain at home longer.

Jenner’s Pond will follow the presentations with hands-on technology demonstrations Thursday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. Led by technology concierge Jacob Brooke, the sessions will introduce participants to smartwatches, health applications, wearable devices and wireless health-monitoring technology.

The speaker series builds on technology and care practices already in use at Jenner’s Pond. Simpson reported that the community combines the Comfort Matters dementia-care model with person-directed living and uses AI-based health monitoring, while therapeutic gardens are designed to give memory-care residents opportunities for movement.

McKinley characterized the series as part of Simpson’s effort to give community members and families more information about emerging approaches to aging and care.
