WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing multiple felony drug and firearms charges after investigators executed a search warrant at a residence on the city’s west side and recovered narcotics, a handgun, and more than $16,000 in cash, according to police.
The Wilmington Police Department said members of its Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division had been investigating 22-year-old David Loper in connection with alleged illegal drug sales in the 800 block of West 5th Street.
According to investigators, police and Delaware Probation and Parole officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 800 block of West 5th Street at approximately 10:55 a.m. on June 3.
Police said Loper was located inside the residence and taken into custody without incident.
During the search, investigators reported recovering a loaded 9mm handgun, approximately 44.5 grams of crack cocaine, 1.89 grams of heroin, 29 Suboxone strips, approximately 693 milliliters of promethazine, 99 grams of marijuana, and $16,069 in U.S. currency.
According to authorities, Loper was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver Tier 3, possession of a controlled substance Tier 3, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, two counts of possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance Tier 1, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Court records show Loper was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after bail was set at $162,100 cash only.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
