NEW CASTLE, DE — Two 19-year-old men are accused of assaulting a victim with a weapon during a dispute inside a vehicle, according to New Castle County Police.
Police reported that officers responded around 4:49 p.m. Thursday, April 9, to the unit block of Ferris Court for a reported assault involving a weapon.
According to investigators, the victim had arranged to meet two acquaintances and entered their vehicle. While driving, police stated the suspects allegedly stopped and began physically assaulting the victim over a prior dispute.
Authorities reported that during the incident, the victim was allegedly struck with a weapon inside the vehicle before escaping and contacting police. Investigators stated the victim sustained minor upper-body injuries.
Detectives identified the suspects as Franck Sahou and Daniel Abegunde, both 19 and from Bear.
According to police, detectives executed a search warrant April 10 at a residence associated with Abegunde in Bear. Investigators reported recovering a handgun, more than 140 grams of marijuana, packaging materials, and drug paraphernalia.
Police stated that Abegunde is charged with multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, strangulation, aggravated menacing, conspiracy, assault, terroristic threatening, possession of a large-capacity magazine, and drug-related offenses.
Authorities reported that Abegunde was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $266,000.00 cash bail.
According to police, Sahou was taken into custody April 13 and charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, conspiracy, assault, and terroristic threatening, among other offenses.
Police reported that Sahou was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $76,000.00 secured bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
