TikTok Meetup Ends in Armed Robbery, Police Say

WILMINGTON, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating an armed robbery that allegedly began with a meeting arranged through the social media platform TikTok.

According to state police, troopers responded at approximately 5 p.m. Friday to the rear of a business in the 3800 block of Kirkwood Highway for a report of an armed robbery.

Investigators said the victim had connected with a suspect through TikTok and agreed to meet at a location on Maryland Avenue in Wilmington to ride electric bicycles together.

According to the preliminary investigation, the victim and suspect rode through the area for a period of time before the suspect allegedly persuaded the victim to go behind a business on Kirkwood Highway under the pretense of creating videos.

Police allege that once the pair reached the rear of the business, a second suspect wearing a mask approached, displayed a handgun, and demanded the victim’s electric bicycle.

According to investigators, the victim complied and the two suspects fled with the stolen bicycle. Police said the victim was not injured during the incident.

The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing to investigate. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information relevant to the case to contact Detective M. Conway at 302-365-8411.
