Three Gun Arrests in 33 Hours Alarm Newark Police

NEWARK, DE — Newark Police Department said officers recovered three loaded firearms during separate traffic stop investigations conducted between early Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the first incident occurred at about 4:21 a.m. Saturday near East Main Street and Academy Street after officers allegedly observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on East Main Street.

Investigators identified the driver as Sean Boswell, 29, of Medford, New Jersey. During a driving under the influence investigation, officers allegedly discovered a loaded 9mm handgun concealed in the driver’s door pocket within reach of the driver, police said.

According to investigators, Boswell allegedly did not possess a valid concealed carry permit.

Boswell was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm while under the influence, and additional traffic offenses.

Police said Boswell was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Facility on an intoxication hold pending arraignment.

A second arrest occurred at about 1:26 a.m. Sunday near Elkton Road and O’Daniel Avenue, according to police.

Investigators said a patrol sergeant observed a man later identified as David Willis, 43, of Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, allegedly urinating alongside the roadway in public view.

During the investigation, officers allegedly determined Willis was intoxicated and had operated the vehicle while under the influence before stopping, police reported.

According to investigators, officers also allegedly discovered a loaded 9mm handgun concealed beneath the driver’s seat. Police said Willis allegedly did not possess a valid concealed carry permit.

Willis was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, driving under the influence of alcohol, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm while under the influence.

Police said Willis was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Facility on an intoxication hold pending arraignment.

The third incident occurred at about 1:01 p.m. Sunday after an officer allegedly observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on East Delaware Avenue without a valid license plate, police said.

According to investigators, the driver, Andrew Harris, 21, of Orlando, Florida, allegedly failed to provide a driver’s license, vehicle registration, or proof of insurance during the stop.

Before the vehicle was towed, officers allegedly discovered a loaded 9mm handgun in the vehicle’s center console near the driver’s seat and additional ammunition in the driver’s door pocket, according to police.

Investigators said Harris allegedly did not possess a valid concealed carry permit.

Harris was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and four traffic offenses.

Police said Harris was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 11, released on $3,200 unsecured bail, and ordered to relinquish all firearms to Newark police.
