Teens Identified in Fatal Townsend Hit-and-Run Crash

TOWNSEND, DE — Delaware State Police have identified the two teenagers killed in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning in Townsend as 17-year-old Nathan Sinex and 17-year-old Cara Feeley, both of Townsend.

According to state police, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 1:10 a.m. on June 20 on Dupont Parkway south of Denny Lynn Drive.

Investigators reported that the two teenagers were walking an electric bike in or near the left lane of southbound Dupont Parkway when a southbound Nissan Altima struck them.

Police allege the driver initially stopped after the collision but then left the scene, continuing southbound on Dupont Parkway.

According to troopers, the Nissan was later located traveling southbound near Paddock Road in Smyrna. Troopers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as 23-year-old Nizaiah Ellis of Newfield, New Jersey. Investigators said they observed damage to the vehicle consistent with the crash and subsequently determined the Nissan had been involved in the collision.

Sinex and Feeley were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Ellis was arrested and charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a collision resulting in death and one count of failure to report a collision resulting in death. Court records show he was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on a $12,050 secured bond.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the crash.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
