PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia police are searching for a suspect accused of breaking into a South Philadelphia grocery store with a sledgehammer and stealing a cabinet containing lottery tickets.
According to investigators, the burglary occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. April 26 at Jeanne’s Corner Grocery & Deli on Shunk Street.
Police reported surveillance video captured the suspect approaching the business and allegedly shattering the glass front door with a sledgehammer before entering the store.
Once inside, investigators said the suspect allegedly removed a cabinet containing scratch-off lottery tickets from the counter and fled the business.
According to police, the suspect later stashed the lottery ticket cabinet in a rear alley before being captured on surveillance footage walking northbound in the 2600 block of Rosewood Street. Minutes later, the suspect was again recorded on surveillance video in the 1400 block of Snyder Avenue, investigators reported.
Police have not released additional details regarding the suspect’s identity.
