NEWARK, DE — A Wilmington man faces felony drug charges after Newark police stopped a vehicle connected to a shoplifting investigation and allegedly discovered narcotics during the encounter.
According to the Newark Police Department, members of the Street Crimes Unit observed a vehicle on South College Avenue at approximately 10:15 a.m. on June 2 that had been linked to a shoplifting investigation being conducted by another law enforcement agency.
Police reported that officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as 44-year-old Donelle Harris of Wilmington.
During the investigation, Harris was allegedly found in possession of a felony-level quantity of crack cocaine and Oxycodone/Acetaminophen pills, according to police.
Authorities said Harris was taken into custody without incident and transported to Newark Police headquarters.
Police charged Harris with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Court records cited by police show Harris appeared before Justice of the Peace Court No. 2 and was released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
