Police Raid Smoke Shops Amid Expanding Wilmington Drug Probe

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police Department said investigators seized thousands of grams of marijuana and THC products, along with other drugs, firearms-related items, and cash, during an ongoing investigation into alleged illegal drug sales at businesses across the city.

According to police, members of the department’s Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division executed a search warrant at Rockford Smoke Shop in the 1400 block of North DuPont Street at about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Investigators said officers allegedly recovered about 3,383 grams — more than 7.4 pounds — of marijuana and marijuana products during the search.

Police said the latest warrant execution is part of a broader investigation launched after complaints from residents and community leaders regarding alleged illegal marijuana and drug sales at smoke shops and corner stores throughout Wilmington.

According to investigators, earlier searches conducted at multiple businesses between December 2025 and April 2026 allegedly resulted in the seizure of more than 11,000 grams of marijuana and THC products, 361 Xylazine pills, methamphetamine, Psilocybin, Adderall pills, firearms-related items, drug packaging materials, and cash.

Investigators alleged search warrants were executed at several businesses, including Red Eye Smoke Shop on Lancaster Avenue, VIP Smoke Shop on Maryland Avenue, Sam Smoke Shop on South Union Street, Bodega 302 on North Market Street, 4th Street Mini Mart on West 4th Street, Smoke Shop on West 4th Street, and A1 Smoke Shop on West 4th Street.

According to police, items allegedly recovered during the investigation included a .380-caliber handgun, ammunition, a ballistic vest, Oxycodone pills, methamphetamine, marijuana, THC products, Psilocybin, Xylazine pills, and thousands of dollars in cash.

Police said the investigation remains active and involves coordination with the City of Wilmington Department of Land Use & Planning, Licenses & Inspections officials, and the Delaware Department of Justice.

Authorities said potential charges and other enforcement actions involving the businesses remain pending.
