WILMINGTON, DE — A 25-year-old man faces attempted murder and weapons charges in connection with a July 6 shooting that left a 29-year-old man critically injured, according to Wilmington Police.
Police identified the defendant as Jamar Jackson.
At approximately 1:49 p.m. July 6, officers responded to the area of 8th and Adams streets for a reported shooting, police reported. Officers found a 29-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The investigation was assigned to Detective Thomas Rittenhouse of the Criminal Investigations Division. According to police, investigators subsequently identified Jackson as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest.
Jackson was taken into custody Aug. 5 with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Task Force, police reported.
He was charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, two counts of criminal mischief under $1,000 and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
Jackson was arraigned in New Castle County Superior Court and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1.5 million cash-only bail, according to police.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
