Months of Suspicion End With Troubling Discovery in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing multiple felony drug and firearms charges following an investigation into alleged narcotics distribution in the city, according to authorities.

The New Castle County Police Department said detectives assigned to the Violent Crime Interdiction Team and the FBI Violent Crimes Safe Streets Task Force began investigating 27-year-old Dale Womack in April after receiving information that he was allegedly distributing illegal narcotics from a residence in the 200 block of West 4th Street.

According to investigators, detectives took Womack into custody on May 28 and subsequently executed a court-authorized search warrant at the residence.

Police reported recovering a loaded 9mm handgun, approximately 275 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 146 grams of marijuana, multiple bags containing suspected heroin and fentanyl, and items commonly associated with the packaging and distribution of narcotics.

Womack was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with multiple offenses, including two felony counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, Tier 3, and possession of a controlled substance, Tier 3.

Authorities also charged Womack with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.

According to police, Womack was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $110,500 cash bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
