WILMINGTON, DE — An 18-year-old Wilmington man faces firearm and drug charges after police allege he fled from officers and entered a residence where investigators later recovered a loaded handgun equipped with a switch.
Members of the Wilmington Police Department’s Uniformed Services Division were near West Seventh and North Adams streets at approximately 9:13 a.m. July 14 when they observed a man acting suspiciously, according to police.
Officers attempted to contact the man, but police allege he fled on foot and entered a residence in the 800 block of West Fourth Street.
A short time later, officers took Keavon Bailey, 18, into custody without further incident, police reported. Investigators allege officers recovered 13 small bags of heroin.
Police subsequently executed a search warrant at the West Fourth Street residence and reported recovering a loaded 9mm handgun equipped with a switch.
Bailey was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Bailey was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $33,600 secured bail, according to police.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
