Gun Show Purchase Attempt Leads to Fraud Charges

CAERNARVON TWP, PA — A 50-year-old man is facing charges following an investigation into an alleged false statement made during a firearm purchase attempt.

According to the Caernarvon Township Police Department, Detective Corporal Chad Eberly received information on Friday, May 6, 2022, from the Pennsylvania State Police Firearms Division regarding a potential investigation involving Harry Castner.

Police reported the investigation stemmed from an incident on January 17, 2021, when Castner allegedly attempted to purchase a firearm at a gun show in the 6100 block of Morgantown Road. Authorities said the purchase was denied due to a prior prohibiting conviction.

According to investigators, a review of Castner’s ATF Form 4473 indicated he allegedly answered “no” to a question regarding prior convictions. Police stated the response is believed to be false based on his criminal history.

Authorities allege Castner knowingly made false statements on the federal firearm transaction form during the attempted purchase.

Castner was charged on April 10, 2026, with sale or transfer of firearms and unsworn falsification to authorities, police reported.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
