Ex-Stepparent Accused of Taking Disabled Teen’s Inheritance

Arrest

HARRISBURG, PA — A Montgomery County man has been charged after investigators alleged he stole more than $100,000 in life insurance proceeds belonging to his disabled former stepson following the death of the young man’s mother.

Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the arrest of 38-year-old Christopher O. Johnson, who is charged with felony financial exploitation of a care-dependent person and related offenses.

According to the Office of Attorney General, the investigation alleges that Johnson misappropriated more than $100,000 in life insurance payments belonging to the victim during a three-month period following the victim’s mother’s death from a stroke in 2025.

Investigators said the victim, now 19 years old, has lifelong cognitive and neurodevelopmental disabilities and relies on others for assistance with daily activities.

Johnson was arrested Monday in Upper Pottsgrove Township on a felony warrant, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

Court records show he was arraigned and released after bail was set at $25,000 unsecured. As a condition of bail, he is prohibited from having contact with the victim.

The case will be prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Ani Hatza.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
