NORTH EAST, MD — Cecil College awarded Licensed Practical Nurse certificates to seven graduates during a pinning ceremony Thursday, adding newly trained healthcare workers to a profession that federal labor officials project will continue growing over the next decade.
The Class of 2026 was recognized during a ceremony at the college’s Technology Center on the North East Campus after completing the program’s classroom instruction and clinical training.
Licensed practical nurses provide primary patient care, monitor patients, manage basic nursing needs and maintain medical records while working alongside registered nurses and physicians, according to the American Nurses Association.
Assistant Professor of Nursing Justin Porter, coordinator of Cecil College’s LPN program, said the graduates completed demanding academic and clinical requirements while preparing for careers in patient care.
“They balanced rigorous coursework, hands-on clinical experiences, and countless hours of studying while developing the knowledge, skills, and compassion essential to providing outstanding patient care,” Porter stated.

- Kaiden McCleary
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment for licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses will increase 5% through 2032, with an annual mean wage of $59,730 in Maryland.
