WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have charged one adult and three juveniles following an investigation into an armed carjacking reported last month near West 2nd Street and Ogle Avenue.
According to investigators, officers responded at approximately 7:15 p.m. on April 5 for a reported armed carjacking in the area.
The investigation was assigned to Detective Thomas Rittenhouse of the Criminal Investigations Division, police reported.
Through the investigation, detectives identified 19-year-old Salat Collins and three 17-year-old male juveniles as suspects and obtained warrants for their arrests, according to police.
Investigators said officers located Collins and one of the juveniles on April 8 in the 1300 block of Maple Street. Police alleged both suspects fled on foot when officers attempted to make contact before they were later taken into custody without further incident.
According to police, officers recovered a .40 caliber handgun during the arrests.
On April 17, a member of the Wilmington Police K-9 Unit located a second 17-year-old suspect, who was taken into custody without incident, investigators reported.
Police said officers executed a search warrant on May 13 in the 1200 block of Maple Street and located the third 17-year-old suspect. During the search, investigators reported officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and a loaded .45 caliber handgun. Police also alleged one of the firearms had been reported stolen from the Chester Police Department.
According to investigators, Collins was charged with:
- Robbery in the first degree
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited — three counts
- Conspiracy in the second degree
- Carrying a concealed deadly weapon
- Resisting arrest
Police reported Collins was arraigned in New Castle County Superior Court and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $103,000 cash-only bail.
The first 17-year-old juvenile was charged with robbery in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, conspiracy in the second degree, and resisting arrest, according to police. Investigators said the juvenile was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held on $55,000 cash-only bail.
According to police, the second 17-year-old juvenile was charged with robbery in the first degree, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and conspiracy in the second degree. Police reported the juvenile was held on $137,000 cash-only bail following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11.
The third 17-year-old juvenile was charged with robbery in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, and conspiracy in the second degree, investigators reported. According to police, the juvenile was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and held on $155,000 cash-only bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
