NEWARK, DE — A New Castle woman is accused of calling 911 under false pretenses and assaulting two emergency medical technicians after they transported her to a Newark hospital, according to Delaware State Police.
Troopers responded to Christiana Hospital at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday for a report that two EMTs had been assaulted by a patient.
According to investigators, two EMTs with the Holloway Terrace Fire Company had responded to the 200 block of West Ninth Street in New Castle for a report of a woman experiencing shortness of breath. After providing medical care, the medics transported the woman to the hospital.
Police said that upon arriving at the hospital, the woman allegedly assaulted both EMTs, causing non-life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, troopers identified the woman as Lori Mangini, 59, of New Castle. Investigators further determined that Mangini allegedly believed emergency medical personnel and hospital staff were responsible for the death of a family member.
According to state police, Mangini intentionally called 911 to lure emergency responders so she could assault healthcare workers.
Mangini was arrested and taken to Troop 6, where she was charged with two counts of second-degree assault for injuring an EMT and one count of terroristic threatening.
Court records show Mangini was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Department of Correction on a $5,500 secured bond.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
