NEW CASTLE, DE — A 25-year-old Newark woman faces a felony assault charge after New Castle County Police allege a July road rage dispute escalated into pepper spray, vehicle damage, and an unlawful restraint of another driver.

Police identified the defendant as Sharon Damiani, 25.

At approximately 3:44 p.m. July 20, officers responded to the 3000 block of New Castle Avenue for a reported road rage incident, according to police.

The victim told officers the confrontation began when a Honda Accord nearly struck the victim’s Ford Explorer in a parking lot. Police allege Damiani then used the Honda to block the Explorer after the victim parked.

According to investigators, the victim attempted to back out of the space, but the Explorer struck the Honda because the vehicle was blocked in.

Police allege Damiani then exited her vehicle and became involved in a verbal confrontation with the victim before spraying the victim with pepper spray.

Investigators further allege Damiani returned to her Honda, pulled forward and then deliberately backed into the Ford Explorer, damaging the vehicle before leaving the scene.

On Aug. 19, detectives located Damiani in Wilmington and took her into custody without incident, according to police.
