LANCASTER, PA — Trout CPA acquired Towson, Maryland-based Schiff & Associates, expanding the Lancaster accounting firm’s Mid-Atlantic operations and adding a specialized dental-practice business to its accounting, tax and advisory platform.
Schiff’s dental advisory operation will continue under the name Schiff Dental CPAs by Trout CPA, according to the firms. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The deal gives Trout a larger foothold in Maryland, where it plans to offer accounting, tax and advisory services beyond Schiff’s existing dental-practice specialty.
Schiff & Associates, founded in 2006, provides accounting, tax and advisory services to dental practices. Its existing professionals will continue working with clients following the acquisition, while gaining access to Trout’s broader operations and resources.
Todd L. Harrington, Trout CPA’s managing partner, described the transaction as part of the firm’s growth strategy and said it would give Schiff clients access to a broader range of services and technology while maintaining their existing relationships.
“This acquisition is an important step in our strategic growth,” Harrington said.
The transaction also deepens Trout’s exposure to a specialized professional-services segment as the firm expands geographically. Trout said it intends to use the acquired operation as a platform for serving clients across multiple industries in Maryland.
Allen M. Schiff, founder of Schiff & Associates, said joining Trout would provide additional scale and resources while maintaining continuity for clients and employees.

Ira Rosenbloom, chief executive officer of Optimum Strategies, served as strategic adviser to Trout on the transaction.
