The Bancorp Expands Fintech Business With Embedded Finance Platform

The Bancorp

WILMINGTON, DE — The Bancorp Inc. (Nasdaq: TBBK) has launched an embedded finance platform that allows nonbank businesses to integrate payments and other banking services into their digital products, expanding the company’s fintech operations under its APEX 2030 strategic plan.

The platform, called Finetics, operates through The Bancorp Bank, N.A., the company’s wholly owned banking subsidiary. It combines banking infrastructure, application programming interfaces and program management services for businesses seeking to offer financial products without building separate banking systems.

The launch extends The Bancorp’s existing program sponsorship and payment services operations into a broader embedded finance offering, targeting digital businesses that want to incorporate financial transactions directly into their customer platforms.

Initial capabilities include instant payouts, prepaid cards, digital wallets and integrated financial tools.

The company is targeting gig economy and workforce platforms, payroll providers, online marketplaces, business-to-business disbursement services and other nonbank organizations.

Finetics offers two implementation approaches. Customers can use a preconfigured technology package intended to accelerate deployment or select individual modules based on their operational requirements.

The Bancorp can also manage financial programs from implementation through ongoing operations or provide API access for businesses seeking greater control over their technology integration.

The structure allows the bank to serve companies with different levels of internal technology and program management capabilities while maintaining a central role in providing banking infrastructure and compliance support.

Ryan Harris, executive vice president and head of Fintech Solutions at The Bancorp, linked the launch to the company’s longer-term investment strategy.

“We continue to invest in technology and expand the capabilities at the center of our fintech-focused strategy,” Harris said.

The Bancorp’s APEX 2030 plan provides the strategic framework for those investments, with Finetics extending the company’s existing fintech capabilities into additional distribution channels.

The platform draws on The Bancorp’s experience in program sponsorship, payment services and fintech lending, businesses that support financial products offered through third-party organizations.

Joshua Pro, chief product officer for Fintech Solutions, said the new platform combines those operations with a more flexible technology structure.

“With Finetics, we are extending that expertise through a flexible solution that pairs technology choice with experienced support from implementation through ongoing growth,” Pro said.

The Bancorp is also providing dedicated teams to assist customers with implementation and continuing program management.

For nonbank businesses, the offering provides a way to incorporate financial services into existing applications while relying on The Bancorp’s banking infrastructure and operational support.

For The Bancorp, Finetics creates an additional channel for distributing its financial technology services as the company expands its bank-led partnerships with digital businesses.
