The right lane and shoulder of southbound Route 222 will close continuously from 7:00 PM Friday until 6:00 AM Monday while crews work on expansion dams on the bridge over North Church Street.

The deceleration lane leading to the southbound Route 222 off-ramp for Route 772 (Brownstown/Rothsville) will also close during the weekend work. The exit itself will remain open.

The right travel lane is scheduled to reopen Monday morning, but the right shoulder and deceleration lane restrictions will remain in place through the following week.

Drivers should expect delays approaching the work area and plan extra time, particularly during heavier weekend travel periods. Motorists heading for the Route 772 exit should use added caution because the normal deceleration lane will be unavailable.

The work is part of a 3.3-mile pavement preservation project on Route 222 through Manheim, Warwick and West Earl townships. The project covers both directions of the highway between the Bushong Road and Pool Road overhead bridges.

Improvements include bituminous resurfacing, full-width milling, base repair, concrete patching, guiderail updates, line painting and sign work. PennDOT reported that most of the roadwork has been completed, although additional lane and possible ramp restrictions are needed to finish remaining items.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company Inc. of New Enterprise is the contractor for the approximately $8.5 million project.
