Police Seek Suspect in Killing of Off-Duty Philadelphia Officer

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man suspected in the fatal shooting of an off-duty Philadelphia police officer Sunday in the 7200 block of Elmwood Avenue.

According to the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit, investigators are seeking a man believed to be in his mid-to-late 20s who was photographed in connection with the Aug. 16 killing.

Police described the suspect as approximately 6 feet tall with a thin-to-medium build, dark complexion and medium-to-bushy cropped hair. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants, a light blue surgical mask and black sneaker-style boots, according to investigators.

Police reported that the man also had a long key chain hanging from the back of his pants and was wearing a large wristwatch.

Before the shooting, investigators allege the suspect was seen walking toward the scene from the area of 73rd Street and Buist Avenue. Following the shooting, he allegedly fled on foot, traveling south on 73rd Street from Buist Avenue, according to police.

Authorities have released photographs of the man as investigators work to determine his identity and whereabouts.

A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
