Ridley Township Intersection Receives $439,000 Upgrade for Enhanced Safety and Travel

PennDOT

RIDLEY TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has unveiled the results of a significant $439,000 construction project at the intersection of Route 420 (Kedron Avenue) and Franklin Avenue in Ridley Township, Delaware County. The initiative, aimed at improving both travel and safety, has seen the implementation of several key enhancements.

One of the most notable improvements is the modification to the turning radius for vehicles transitioning from Franklin Avenue onto northbound Route 420. This adjustment will facilitate smoother traffic flow and minimize potential hazards associated with sharp turns.

In addition to roadway modifications, the project also prioritized pedestrian safety. Sidewalks and ADA curb ramps were replaced, creating safer and more accessible paths for pedestrians. Crosswalks were also added, providing clearly marked areas for individuals crossing the road.

To further enhance visibility and clarity for both drivers and pedestrians, PennDOT’s contractor, Armour & Sons Electric, installed new pavement markings and signage. They also added stop bars, which inform drivers where to stop when a traffic signal is red, enhancing safety at the intersection.

Outdated equipment at the intersection, such as traffic signals, pedestrian signals, and lighting, were not left untouched. These were replaced with modern, more reliable models, reducing the chances of malfunctions that could lead to confusion or accidents.

Armour & Sons Electric, based in Langhorne, PA, served as the general contractor for the project. It’s noteworthy that the entire cost of the project was financed with federal funds.
