PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia Zoo will discount general admission tickets by 25% from July 1 through July 5 as the institution marks its 153rd anniversary and joins the city’s America 250 celebrations, a move aimed at drawing additional visitors during a year of heightened tourism in Philadelphia.
The promotion applies to all general admission tickets purchased with the code “4JULY25.” Adult admission prices normally range from $21 to $29.50, while children’s tickets range from $17 to $24.
The five-day sale comes as Philadelphia prepares for a series of major events tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary, including the FIFA World Cup and other tourism initiatives expected to generate significant economic activity across the region.
America’s first zoo is using the anniversary year to showcase several new attractions, including Carey Bear Country, a renovated bear habitat featuring Andean and sloth bears and a new Zoo360 trail system.
The zoo has also reopened Hollenstein Ross Penguin Point with a new colony of Magellanic penguins, marking the first time in more than 75 years that the species has been exhibited at the facility.
Other additions include Destination Philadelphia, a new gift shop featuring Philadelphia- and America 250-themed merchandise, and new ZOOtopiaries installations, including a bald eagle sculpture commemorating the nation’s semiquincentennial.
The zoo is also promoting attractions that require separate admission, including the 110-foot Philly Zoo Pherris Wheel, giraffe feeding experiences, the Amazon Rainforest Carousel and the Wild Explorer virtual reality attraction.
Philadelphia Zoo is encouraging visitors to participate in its “250,000 Actions for Animals” campaign, which seeks to engage the public in conservation activities ranging from litter cleanups to planting native species and participating in wildlife surveys.
The campaign is one of hundreds of programs and events taking place across Philadelphia during the America 250 commemoration.
The discounted admission offer runs through July 5 and is among the zoo’s most aggressive ticket promotions in recent years as the institution seeks to capitalize on increased visitation associated with the city’s anniversary celebrations.
