EXTON, PA — Chester County Library and state Sen. Carolyn Comitta will offer free library card registration, educational activities and a children’s book collection during a September 13 event designed to expand access to public library services and support local literacy programs.
The fourth annual Library Card Sign-Up Fest will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Chester County Library, 450 Exton Square Parkway.
The event coincides with Library Card Sign-Up Month, observed each September to encourage residents to use public library resources, educational programs and community services.
Families can register for library cards and participate in science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities, Makerspace projects, LEGO building and bookmark crafts.
Additional attractions include the YMCA’s Zoo & STEM on Wheels, bubbles, Maggie Moo’s ice cream and a Touch a Truck display featuring police, fire and emergency medical vehicles.
Miss Pennsylvania’s Teen Anna Rinnier will participate in bookmark crafting, while Comitta will lead a StoryWalk story time. Michael Kropp will provide live music.
The library will also collect new and gently used books for children and teenagers from birth through age 18. Donated books will support local nonprofit organizations serving young people.
“Even in the digital age, they offer free opportunities for connection, learning, and entertainment that no gadget or app can replace,” Comitta stated of public libraries.
The library parking lot will be closed during the event. Visitors can park in the garage across the street or in nearby mall parking lots.
