NEW CASTLE, DE — Anime heroes, elaborate cosplay, gaming and comic book culture will come together in New Castle this September as Delaware KuRo Con makes its debut with a convention organizers hope will become a new annual tradition.
The inaugural Delaware KuRo Con is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Elks Lodge 2281. Organized by Darrell “KuRuPTo” Willingham, the family-friendly event will bring fans, artists, cosplayers, collectors, vendors and special guests together under the theme “A Legend Is Born.”
Among the convention’s first confirmed guests is voice actress Kerry Williams, who voiced Nami in the original 4Kids English-language dub of the long-running anime series “One Piece” from 2004 to 2007.
Cosplay artist Peepocosplays will also appear at the event.
Throughout the day, visitors can browse work from local artists and craft vendors, shop for anime and pop culture merchandise, visit food vendors and take part in cosplay showcases and other fan activities.
Beyond giving fans a place to celebrate their favorite characters and stories, organizers envision KuRo Con as a showcase for Delaware’s creative community. Independent artists, makers, authors, vendors and small businesses will have opportunities to put their work in front of fans from Delaware and the surrounding region.
“Our goal is to build something Delaware can be proud of,” the Delaware KuRo Con organizing team said. “The theme, ‘A Legend Is Born,’ reflects more than our first convention; it represents the beginning of a tradition.”
Organizers hope the convention can continue growing in the years ahead while providing a gathering place for anime, comics, gaming and cosplay fans closer to home.
“We hope this is the first of many Delaware KuRo Cons that continue to grow, inspire creativity, and bring people together for years to come,” the team said.
