Navy Yard Expands Community Programming With Third Thursdays

Third Thursdays

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Navy Yard is continuing its push to attract residents, workers and visitors with the return of Third Thursdays, a monthly event series that transforms Chapel Plaza into an outdoor gathering space featuring local food vendors, artisan merchants and live entertainment.

The program, organized by Ensemble and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), will run monthly through October at the Navy Yard’s 35,000-square-foot Chapel Plaza, adjacent to the recently opened AVE Navy Yard apartment community. Organizers said the next event is scheduled for June 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The initiative reflects broader efforts to expand the Navy Yard’s role beyond its traditional office and industrial base by adding more community-focused programming and amenities designed to support the district’s growing residential population.

June’s event will feature a soccer-themed giveaway tied to Philadelphia’s role as a host city for a major international sporting event this summer.

Food vendors scheduled to participate include Beck’s Cajun Café, Poundcake Heaven and Put a Egg. The event will also feature local merchants selling plants, artwork, jewelry, fragrances, accessories and other specialty goods.

Live music will be provided by Tipsy Wicked, while lawn games including giant Jenga and cornhole will be available throughout the evening.

Additional Third Thursdays events are scheduled for July 16, Aug. 20, Sept. 17 and Oct. 15. All events will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Chapel Plaza, located at 1200 Normandy Place in the Navy Yard.
