WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County health inspectors cited three food establishments for sanitation, equipment and food-handling violations during Aug. 3 inspections, including raw animal products stored above ready-to-eat food, an unclean ice machine and repeat cleanliness problems.
The Chester County Health Department emphasized that inspection reports represent conditions observed at a specific time and may not reflect an establishment’s overall or long-term food safety performance.
Brickette Lounge, located at 1339 Pottstown Pike in West Chester, received a change-of-owner inspection that documented raw animal food stored above ready-to-eat items in a two-door cooler. The affected food was discarded during the inspection.
Inspectors also found food residue on a tabletop can opener blade, empty paper towel dispensers at two handwashing sinks, and small flies in the bar area. The can opener was removed, and paper towels were supplied while inspectors were present.
Additional findings at Brickette Lounge included a leaking food-preparation sink sprayer, damaged or unused refrigeration equipment, missing bar floor tiles, unfinished or water-damaged basement surfaces and accumulated dirt on equipment, walls and floors.
The department directed the establishment to obtain professional pest-control service and submit its latest and next service reports. Inspectors also called for repairs, deeper cleaning and the removal of unused equipment.
A Domino’s location operated by JS3 Pizza LLC at 253 Schuylkill Road in Phoenixville was cited for water pooling inside a pizza preparation refrigerator and a broken hot-water handle on a three-compartment sink. Hot water remained available during the inspection.
Inspectors also documented an unlabeled bulk cornmeal container, debris on the walk-in cooler floor, damaged or missing ceiling tiles and an unclean public men’s restroom. The labeling, cooler-floor and restroom findings were identified as repeat violations.
A chemical spray bottle was also found on a pizza preparation counter. Inspectors directed the business to store chemicals in a separate designated area.
A complaint inspection at Wendy’s, 153 E. Swedesford Road in Exton, found an ice machine with missing seals, peeling surfaces and a leak from the bottom. Inspectors ordered the unit replaced.
The machine’s interior contained residue on a food-contact surface and required cleaning and sanitizing that day. Inspectors also cited dripping from doors beneath a cook-line cooler, dirty flooring under an unused fryer and an empty paper towel dispenser at a handwashing sink.
Twelve other facilities inspected Aug. 3 were listed as in compliance:
- CVS Pharmacy #1401, Phoenixville;
- Dunkin’ in Caln; Flavor Spot, Spring City;
- Hissho Sushi at Giant 6116, West Chester;
- Landenberg Sunoco Foods; Malvern Buttery;
- Mindfully Mina’s at BFM, Berwyn;
- Paradise Farm Camps, Downingtown;
- Rolling Stars LLC, West Chester;
- T.D. Alfredo’s, Phoenixville;
- Tacos El Guzano, Spring City; and
- Wegmans Food Market in East Whiteland.
