Leadership Transition at Greater Philadelphia Film Office Ushers in New Era

Greater Philadelphia Film Office

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Greater Philadelphia Film Office (GPFO) has announced a major leadership change as it prepares to mark its 40th anniversary next year. Sharon Pinkenson, who has led the organization for decades, will step down as executive director on November 30. Taking her place are Erin Wagner and Nicole Shiner, who will assume co-director roles effective December 1.

According to GPFO Board Chair Alan Zeiger, the leadership transition represents both continuity and opportunity. “Erin and Nicole’s selection as co-directors ensures continuity but also provides an opportunity to envision a new future,” he said. “We are excited about working alongside them for an even better GPFO.”

Wagner and Shiner, long-serving GPFO team members, collectively bring 43 years of experience to their new roles. Their paths reflect a commitment to the organization, with Wagner joining as an intern in 2001 and rising through the ranks, while Shiner began as an assistant to the executive director in 2004. Both have played key roles in production coordination, government relations, and operational management during their time at the agency.

David Raynor, a producer with over two decades of collaboration with GPFO, praised the pair’s expertise. “The film industry can rely on their expertise and extensive connections with the crew, vendors, and state and local officials while also taking GPFO in a new direction with fresh ideas and initiatives,” he said.

Wagner will focus on production and workforce development. She plans to re-establish open dialogues with local crew and launch a workforce development training program to create a pipeline for production jobs in southeastern Pennsylvania. With her experience as GPFO’s current production coordinator, Wagner is well-equipped to engage with filmmakers, facilitate logistics, and work with local governments to support successful productions.

Shiner will concentrate on organizational operations, including finance, human resources, and board relations. She will also continue her role as GPFO’s key contact on the Pennsylvania Film Tax Credit program, advocating for filmmakers navigating the application process. Her background in legislative work and government affairs uniquely positions her to address challenges in the film industry and leverage opportunities.

Gino Anthony Pesi, executive director of the Pennsylvania Film Office, expressed confidence in the new leadership. “Congratulations to Erin Wagner and Nicole Shiner on their new roles. Both are supportive collaborators and passionate advocates for growing the film industry in PA. With their years of experience and knowledge working under Sharon’s guidance, they will continue to grow and evolve Philadelphia’s legacy in the entertainment industry with enthusiasm and integrity,” he said.

Sharon Pinkenson’s tenure as GPFO’s executive director transformed the organization from a basic permit office into a respected regional film commission that has championed the local film industry. She is leaving to pursue opportunities as an executive producer.

This leadership change marks a significant moment for GPFO as it looks to build on its success under new direction.
