Teens Accused After Violent Morning Robbery in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE — New Castle County Police arrested three juvenile females on Monday following a robbery investigation in the Cleland Heights community.

According to investigators, officers responded at approximately 6:28 a.m. May 25 to the 1500 block of Clayton Road for a report of a robbery that had just occurred.

Police reported the victims told officers several suspects approached them and demanded vehicle keys.

According to investigators, the victims refused and attempted to leave the area in their vehicle. During the encounter, one suspect allegedly assaulted one of the victims while other suspects allegedly removed multiple cell phones from inside the vehicle before fleeing.

Police said officers assigned to the investigation later located the stolen cell phones near a bus stop on Maryland Avenue at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Investigators reported officers contacted three 17-year-old female juveniles at the location and took them into custody without incident. According to police, the stolen iPhones were recovered from the juveniles.

All three juveniles were charged with two counts of robbery in the second degree and one count of conspiracy in the second degree, investigators said.

Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, police reported one juvenile was released after posting $11,000 unsecured bail, another was released after posting $2,500 secured bail, and a third was committed to a juvenile detention center after failing to post $7,000 secured bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
