PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers should prepare for overnight delays on Interstate 95 as bridge construction reduces northbound and southbound traffic to as little as one open lane near the Girard Point Bridge in Southwest Philadelphia.

On Wednesday, a single lane will close on northbound I-95 at 9:00 PM between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611). A second lane will close at midnight, leaving the highway reduced by two lanes until 5:00 AM while crews remove signs.
A right lane closure will also be in place on southbound I-95 from 11:00 PM Wednesday until 5:00 AM Thursday between Broad Street (Route 611) and Enterprise Avenue. Crews will use the restriction to install temporary lighting.
On Thursday, a single southbound lane will close at 11:00 PM along the same section. A double lane closure will then be in place from midnight until 5:00 AM Friday for sign removal.
The work will begin after the scheduled Phillies games conclude Wednesday and Thursday. Drivers leaving the stadium complex should expect delays and changing traffic patterns as restrictions are established.
No detour has been announced. Drivers should plan extra time, seek alternate routes when practical and remain alert for workers and equipment. Backups are expected through the construction area.
The restrictions are part of a $261.5 million project to rehabilitate the 5,183-foot, double-deck Girard Point Bridge and nine approach structures between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street.
The project includes repairs to bridge decks, expansion joints, barriers, structural steel and concrete. Crews will also upgrade lighting, drainage and intelligent transportation systems, while completing protective work around a bridge pier in the Schuylkill River.
South State Inc. of Bridgeton, New Jersey, is the general contractor. The project is financed with 90% federal funds and 10% state funds.
