WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — Drivers traveling between I-476 and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) should prepare for overnight detours across two consecutive weekends as PennDOT closes four interchange ramps for milling and paving in West Conshohocken Borough and Lower Merion Township.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: I-476 and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) interchange ramps
- Dates: Friday, August 21, through Sunday, August 23; Friday, August 28, through Sunday, August 30
- Times: 10:00 PM – 9:00 AM the following morning
- Reason: Milling and paving
The first round of closures begins Friday, August 21. From 10:00 PM Friday until 9:00 AM Saturday and again from 10:00 PM Saturday until 9:00 AM Sunday, the ramp from northbound I-476 to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) will be closed and detoured.
During those same overnight periods, the ramp from westbound I-76 to southbound I-476 will also be closed and detoured.
A second round of ramp closures is scheduled for Friday, August 28, and Saturday, August 29. From 10:00 PM until 9:00 AM the following morning, the ramp from westbound I-76 to northbound I-476 will be closed.
The ramp from eastbound I-76 to northbound I-476 will also be closed during those same overnight periods.
PennDOT did not specify individual roads for the detours. Drivers affected by the four ramp closures will be directed to follow posted detour routes.
Motorists should plan extra time when approaching the I-476 and I-76 interchange and expect delays as traffic is redirected. Drivers unfamiliar with the interchange should pay close attention to posted detour signs.
The weekend restrictions come on top of ongoing weeknight lane closures along I-476. Those restrictions are scheduled from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM through early September on sections of northbound and southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges in Montgomery and Delaware counties.
The work is part of a $63.7 million project to resurface, repair and improve nearly 17 miles of I-476, along with associated ramps and bridges.
The project includes milling and resurfacing travel lanes and shoulders, repairs to 49 structures and improvements to 21 stormwater management basins. Crews are also addressing rock slope stabilization, sound walls, drainage inlets, pavement markings, rumble strips, signs and guiderail.
H&K Group Inc. of Skippack is the general contractor for the project, which is financed entirely with federal funds.
