Two Delaware County Road Closures Could Complicate Weekday Trips

HAVERFORD TWP, PA — Drivers in Newtown and Haverford townships should prepare for a week of daytime disruptions beginning Monday, August 24, as PennDOT base repairs close sections of Newtown Street Road and College Avenue on consecutive schedules.

Newtown Street Road will be closed and detoured between Wyola Drive and St. Davids Road on Monday, August 24, and Tuesday, August 25.

Drivers will be directed to use Newtown Road, Waterloo Road, Church Road and St. Davids Road to travel around the closure.

Beginning Wednesday, August 26, College Avenue will be closed and detoured between Haverford Road and Darby Road. That restriction will remain in place through Friday, August 28.

Drivers will be directed to use Haverford Road, Ardmore Avenue and Darby Road to travel around the College Avenue closure.

Local access will be maintained at all times.

Motorists should plan extra time when traveling near either work area or along the detour routes because backups and delays may occur. Drivers who regularly use the affected roads should consider alternate routes when practical.
