PHILADELPHIA, PA — Arden Theatre Company is launching families into a universe of mystery, courage, and cosmic wonder this holiday season with its new stage adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, opening December 3 on the F. Otto Haas Stage. The production marks the first time the Arden has brought Madeline L’Engle’s iconic story to life, offering a sweeping theatrical journey through space and time.
Directed by Philadelphia-based artist Rebecca Wright, the show adapts John Glore’s award-winning script and invites audiences ages six and up to join Meg Murry, Charles Wallace, and Calvin on their quest across galaxies to rescue Meg’s missing father from a force of encroaching darkness. The creative team behind the Arden’s Barrymore Award–winning production of The Hobbit returns to shape the fantastical worlds of L’Engle’s classic tale.
“This story reminds us that imagination and love are boundless,” Wright said, describing the production as both adventurous and deeply heartfelt. “We’re making something that honors the intelligence and imagination of kids — a story families can truly share.”
The cast features Mersha Wambua as Meg Murry, Jayson Brown as Charles Wallace, and Daniel Burgess as Calvin. Audiences will also encounter the beloved celestial guides — Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which — portrayed by Doug Hara, Julianna Zinkel, and Steven Anthony Wright. The ensemble includes veteran performers whose regional credits span Theatre Horizon, Quintessence Theatre, Media Theatre, People’s Light, and more.
Previews began December 3, with opening night scheduled for December 13. The production runs through January 25, 2026. Tickets start at $32 and are available online, by phone, or at the box office at 40 N. 2nd Street.
The Arden will supplement performances with student matinees, post-show talkbacks, and expanded accessibility offerings, including smart caption glasses, assistive listening devices, sensory-friendly resources, and American Sign Language shadow interpretation at select shows.
Founded in 1988, the Arden has become a cornerstone of Philadelphia theatre, producing 46 world premieres and offering extensive arts education programs. With A Wrinkle in Time, the company continues its commitment to presenting great stories for audiences of all ages — this time, inviting them to step into a universe where love, imagination, and bravery hold the power to change everything.
