WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police Department said officers arrested a 17-year-old male on multiple gun-related charges following an incident on Tuesday, May 5, near Northeast Boulevard and East 16th Street.
According to police, members of the department’s Gun Intelligence Unit were in the area at about 2:44 p.m. when they observed the juvenile allegedly acting suspiciously.
Police said officers attempted to make contact with the teen, who then allegedly fled on foot. A short time later, the juvenile was taken into custody without further incident, according to investigators.
Officers allegedly recovered a loaded 9mm handgun during the investigation, police reported.
The 17-year-old was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and resisting arrest.
Police said the juvenile was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center pending further proceedings.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
