PHILADELPHIA, PA — Arden Theatre Company will open its 2026-27 Mainstage Season in September with the Bob Dylan-inspired musical Girl from the North Country, followed by a five-production lineup that includes the Philadelphia premiere of Broadway hit John Proctor is the Villain, the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Topdog/Underdog, and the Tony Award-winning musical Kimberly Akimbo.

The Philadelphia theater company announced the season Monday, describing a slate that spans musicals, contemporary dramas and comedies. Performances begin Sept. 24 with Girl from the North Country and conclude June 13, 2027, with Kimberly Akimbo.

The season opens with Conor McPherson’s Girl from the North Country, featuring music and lyrics by Bob Dylan and directed by Terrence J. Nolen. Set during the Great Depression in Duluth, Minnesota, the musical weaves Dylan’s songs, including “Forever Young,” “Hurricane,” and “Like a Rolling Stone,” into the story of strangers whose lives intersect in a boarding house.

Beginning Oct. 29, the Arden will stage Suzan-Lori Parks’ Topdog/Underdog, co-produced with People’s Light and directed by Amina Robinson. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play stars Barrymore Award winner Akeem Davis as one of two brothers whose relationship is defined by rivalry, survival and family history.

The company’s winter production is Native Gardens by Karen Zacarías, opening Jan. 21, 2027. Directed by Brett Ashley Robinson, the comedy follows two neighboring couples whose dispute over a property line escalates into a broader conflict over class, culture and identity.

The Arden will present the Philadelphia premiere of Kimberly Belflower’s John Proctor is the Villain on Feb. 25, 2027. Directed by Rebecca Wright, the play follows a group of Georgia high school students whose reading of The Crucible prompts questions about power, reputation and historical narratives.

The season concludes May 13, 2027, with Kimberly Akimbo, directed by Nolen. Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the production centers on a teenager living with a rare condition that causes accelerated aging as she navigates family challenges and adolescence.

Subscription packages for the 2026-27 season are available now. Subscribers receive discounts of up to 40% off regular ticket prices, along with benefits including flexible ticket exchanges and discounts on parking and dining, the company said.
