Aqua Replaces 12,530 Feet of Water Main in Delaware County

Aqua Pennsylvania

BRYN MAWR, PA — Aqua Pennsylvania is replacing more than 12,500 feet of aging water mains across Delaware County as part of an infrastructure modernization effort aimed at reducing service disruptions and improving long-term system reliability.

The utility announced upgrades totaling 12,530 feet of water main in Upper Providence Township, Springfield Township, Media Borough, Darby Borough and Yeadon Borough. The project replaces aging cast-iron pipes with ductile iron mains made from nearly 90% recycled materials.

The work is part of Aqua Pennsylvania’s broader capital investment program focused on replacing aging water infrastructure that in many communities dates back decades.

In Upper Providence Township and Media Borough, crews will replace 3,200 feet of water main along North Orange Street between Kirk Lane and West Fifth Street.

In Darby and Yeadon boroughs, 3,450 feet of water main will be replaced along portions of Cedar Avenue, Norma Road, Alfred Avenue, Coventry Avenue, Glen Cove Road, Londonderry Lane and Shetland Road.

Springfield Township will receive 4,600 feet of new water main along West Rolling Road, Ridge Lane and Hemlock Lane.

Additional projects include 130 feet of replacement water main on Fuller Street in Darby Borough and 1,150 feet on East Fifth Street in Media Borough.

Aqua stated that the upgrades are intended to reduce leaks, minimize water-main breaks and improve water flow for residential and commercial customers.

The utility noted that many drinking water systems across Pennsylvania were installed nearly a century ago and have exceeded their expected service life. Replacing aging infrastructure remains a priority as utilities seek to reduce maintenance costs and improve system resilience.

The new ductile iron mains are expected to provide service reliability for decades while helping reduce water loss and service interruptions throughout the affected communities.
