HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office confirmed that a ransomware attack last month disrupted parts of its operations, but said no payment was made to the attackers and an investigation is ongoing.

Officials said a “malicious actor” encrypted certain files in an effort to force the office to pay to restore access. The office did not disclose how the attack was carried out or what systems were affected, citing the ongoing investigation.

“Our office has not made any such payment,” the statement said, adding that investigators are working to determine what information was compromised.

So far, only a few individuals have been notified that their data may have been involved, but officials said additional notifications will be issued if necessary.

The Attorney General’s Office emphasized that protecting sensitive information remains its top priority. “Safeguarding the public’s trust and ensuring integrity of our operations are our highest priorities,” the office said.

The incident is under active investigation in coordination with partner agencies.
