East Goshen Shooting Now Investigated as Suicide, Child Hurt

EAST GOSHEN TWP, PA — A shooting that left a 9-year-old girl wounded in East Goshen Township is now being investigated as a suicide, according to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office and Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police.

Authorities reported that the Aug. 7 incident involved a person who died by suicide and gunfire that also struck the child. The girl continues to recover from her injuries, according to investigators.

Law enforcement initially responded to the shooting Friday and began investigating the circumstances. The District Attorney’s Office and Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police subsequently determined the incident was a suicide that also resulted in the child being struck by gunfire. Authorities continued to characterize the shooting as an isolated incident with no threat to the general public.

The District Attorney’s Office and police offered condolences to the affected family and asked that its privacy be respected.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
