DEVON, PA — Mullen Coughlin expanded its cybersecurity litigation practice with the hire of veteran trial attorney MaryEllen Conroy as companies face increasing legal exposure tied to data breaches, privacy disputes, and cyber-related litigation nationwide.
Conroy joins the firm as a partner in its Devon headquarters, bringing more than 30 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts, including complex defense matters involving high-exposure claims across multiple industries.
The move comes as organizations continue confronting growing regulatory scrutiny and civil litigation tied to cybersecurity incidents, ransomware attacks, and consumer data exposure. Law firms specializing in privacy and breach response have expanded rapidly in recent years as cyber-related claims increasingly evolve into large-scale litigation and regulatory actions.
Mullen Coughlin said Conroy will focus on defending organizations against data breach, data privacy, and data security claims while advising clients on litigation strategy and risk management matters.
“I look forward to helping organizations navigate their complex legal needs both inside and outside of the courtroom,” Conroy stated.
Before joining Mullen Coughlin, Conroy served as a shareholding partner in the Philadelphia office of a full-service law firm focused on general liability litigation.
In addition to private practice, Conroy serves as a court-appointed mediator for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and has worked as a judge pro tem in Philadelphia County for more than 25 years.
Litigation Practice Group Chair Carolyn Purwin Ryan pointed to Conroy’s trial experience and courtroom background as the firm continues expanding its litigation capabilities.
Managing Member Jennifer A. Coughlin described the addition as part of the firm’s continued investment in complex privacy and breach litigation, an area that has grown alongside escalating cyber threats and evolving data protection requirements.
Mullen Coughlin focuses heavily on cybersecurity, privacy, and breach response matters, representing organizations in litigation and regulatory investigations tied to cyber incidents across the United States.
Conroy earned her law degree from Widener University Delaware Law School and holds a bachelor’s degree from Drexel University. She is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Florida, along with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
