Chester County Residents Unite in Protest of Potential Amazon Warehouse

UWCHLAN TWP, PA — A large number of Uwchlan Township residents turned out for a community meeting last night to voice their concerns over a potential Amazon warehouse development, reports Sharifa Jackson of 6abc. The project, which would be located on 237 acres of land on Lionville Station Road and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, has some locals up in arms.

According to Jim May of Uwchlan Township, residents are determined to make sure township officials understand the gravity of their concerns. The residents believe that this project is not just a small matter that can be easily swept under the rug. With hundreds of people rallying for their cause, residents hope that their voices will be heard and that the project will be evaluated thoroughly.

Citizens are concerned about increased traffic, noise levels, and how the development will negatively impact the area. “Our biggest concerns are really keeping the neighborhoods. We have lived there for many years and everybody out in that area is on water wells and we’d be sharing that water with a new development,” said May.

Kent Empie also spoke out against the idea. “I’d really like to see something else go into this property,” Empie commented, “and not huge Amazon or some other similar warehouse.” While development can bring in jobs and economic growth, many locals are worried about the impact such a large facility could have on the surrounding area. As the debate over the proposed development continues, it remains to be seen what will come of this controversial project.

A township spokesperson said that Audubon Land Development only submitted a preliminary sketch of the plan, so there is still time for residents to make their voices heard.
