KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Lawn games, live music, tacos, and community connection are all coming together this spring as Brandywine Pride launches a new event designed to create a welcoming gathering space for LGBTQ families, friends, and allies in southern Chester County.

The first-ever Brandywine Pride Picnic will take place Saturday, May 30, at Anson B. Nixon Park, offering a relaxed, family-friendly afternoon focused on celebration, creativity, and connection.

Organizers say the free community picnic was created to provide a visible and welcoming space where LGBTQ individuals and families can meet one another, build relationships, and simply enjoy time together outdoors.

A Community Gathering for All Ages

Activities throughout the afternoon will include face painting, lawn games, zine-making, relief printing on T-shirts, and opportunities to connect with local LGBTQ organizations and community groups.

Guests are encouraged to bring an old T-shirt if they would like to participate in the hands-on relief printing activity.

“When I started thinking about this event, I kept thinking about my wife and son,” said Brandywine Pride volunteer Nicole Hilson. “I wanted him to have a place where he could see and meet other families like ours.”

Organizers say the picnic is intentionally designed to feel casual, inclusive, and accessible for attendees of all ages.

Music, Food, and Local Flavor

Live music will be provided by Frost & Fire, an all-female acoustic duo known for blending rich harmonies with fresh takes on popular songs.

Local favorite El Ranchero will also be onsite serving tacos and other menu items from its signature pink food truck. Families are welcome to purchase food or bring their own picnic lunches.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to relax and enjoy the afternoon performances.

Building a Lasting Tradition

Brandywine Pride volunteer and Kennett Collaborative Executive Director Daniel Embree said the event is intended to help strengthen connections across the local LGBTQ community.

“There is a large and friendly community here, but we do not always have obvious places to gather,” Embree said. “This picnic gives us a simple, joyful way to find one another.”

Organizers hope the event becomes an ongoing tradition that continues to create welcoming spaces throughout the region.
