Delaware County Community College Expands Workforce Training to Chester County

COATESVILLE, PA — Delaware County Community College will launch a free Building and Facilities Maintenance Certificate program in Chester County this August, expanding workforce training opportunities for residents seeking entry-level careers in building operations and property maintenance.

The 29-credit program will be offered at the Coatesville Training and Education Center and the college’s Downingtown Center. Tuition assistance and scholarships will be available for qualifying students, with the first classes beginning in August, the college announced.

The initiative is designed to prepare students for jobs including maintenance technician, maintenance mechanic, building property maintenance technician, facilities maintenance worker, building operations technician and general maintenance worker.

“Students will learn skills that directly align with workforce needs of employers in our region,” Dr. Karen Kozachyn, the college’s vice president of workforce and economic development, stated. “This initiative aligns with the College’s commitment to providing accessible career training that leads to employment and economic mobility.”

Coursework includes carpentry fundamentals, introductory electricity, building construction code, construction blueprint reading, industrial systems drawing and workplace safety. Students who complete the program will earn a Certificate of Competency.

Classes at the Coatesville Training and Education Center, 1128 E. Lincoln Highway, and the Downingtown Center, 100 Bond Drive, will be offered part-time during the evening.

The college will host information sessions from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 15 and Aug. 12 at its Downingtown Center. An additional session is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Coatesville Training and Education Center.
